WEEK 8 : Roles of institutions for sustainable development.

    Week 8 Lecture Summary

In today's class, during Week 8 of the lecture series, Dr. Suhaimi presented a topic on the significant roles of national and local institutions in Malaysia in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

To achieve sustainable development goals within a country, efforts must align with SDG 17, which emphasizes the importance of cross-sector and cross-country collaboration in the pursuit of all SDGs by 2030. Dr. Suhaimi shared several examples of international collaborations aimed at advancing SDG targets across various areas, including finance, technology, and capacity building. He also introduced numerous UN entities involved in these efforts, many of which may have been unfamiliar to us.

At the local level, the role of institutions in achieving the SDGs depends largely on how local and regional governments can contribute through bottom-up initiatives. However, several challenges may arise in localizing the SDGs, including financial constraints, weak interconnections, and locality-based barriers.
