      Reflection – Week 10: Measurement and Indicators for SDGs In Week 10, we delved into the crucial topic of measurement and indicators for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This session emphasized the importance of having clear, structured, and measurable indicators to track the progress and effectiveness of efforts toward achieving sustainable development globally. We explored approximately seven main themes of SDG indicators, which include areas such as poverty, health, education, demographics, environment, economy, and governance. These themes represent key pillars of sustainable development and are essential in assessing the overall well-being and progress of societies. The SDGs themselves consist of 17 overarching goals, which are further broken down into 169 specific targets and supported by 240 measurable indicators.   In this week's class (Week 9), our discussion focused on the topic of IIUM as a sustainable campus. IIUM can be considered a sustainable or green campus, as it has received various recognitions from national institutions acknowledging its efforts in promoting sustainability for students and the campus community. Some of the visible initiatives include the introduction of a no-straw policy in selected cafés and the prioritization of lanes for electric micromobility vehicles. Campus sustainability is typically measured through six common indicators: setting and infrastructure, energy and climate change, waste management, water usage, transportation, and education and research.        Week 8 Lecture Summary In today's class, during Week 8 of the lecture series, Dr. Suhaimi presented a topic on the significant roles of national and local institutions in Malaysia in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To achieve sustainable development goals within a country, efforts must align with SDG 17, which emphasizes the importance of cross-sector and cross-country collaboration in the pursuit of all SDGs by 2030. Dr. Suhaimi shared several examples of international collaborations aimed at advancing SDG targets across various areas, including finance, technology, and capacity building. Week 6 Lecture Summary  Roles of Universities in Sustainable Development In Week 6 of our lecture, Dr. Suhaimi discussed the vital roles of universities in achieving sustainable development. He also touched on the impacts of COVID-19 on higher education institutions. Dr. Suhaimi began the session with a Q&A discussion, encouraging us to reflect on the responsibilities of universities in relation to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Many of our classmates actively participated, sharing their thoughts on whether the current university education system is still relevant and whether it truly meets the needs of society today.
